The Hessen: IWU is a three-week academic and cultural programme offering a unique combination of interdisciplinary seminars, German language courses, and a rich social and cultural programme. You鈥檒l have the opportunity to explore global issues, improve your German, and make lasting international friendships.听The programme is designed for undergraduate students from all disciplines who are interested in questions of society, sustainability, health, culture, and international business, and who want to learn or improve their German language skills while immersing themselves in everyday life in Germany.

You can choose between two exciting academic courses:
- International Management in an Inter-Cultural Environment (4 ECTS)
- Migration, Development, and听Sustainability (4 ECTS)

Credit Equivalent听
4 ECTS听= 2 UQ听Units. Maximum of 2 UQ听Units if 4 ECTS are successfully completed (pending UQ faculty approval).

It is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct visa for the country where you will be studying. As the Global Experiences team is not a visa-issuing authority, we cannot provide visa advice.
Eligibility and Application
All applicants must meet the听UQ short-term experience eligibility criteria听and any additional eligibility criteria set bythe
Applicants must听apply to the Global Experiences听team听by听24听September 2026听to be considered for this experience.听
Applicants will be required to submit additional documents to Global Experiences by 24 September 2026, either within your application or by email: gex@uq.edu.au:

The Global Experiences team will nominate successful applicants to the host upon receipt of the above documents.听Students will then be contacted by the host university with further application instructions.听
Cost
The participation mode of this experience is听Exchange.
You are responsible for paying tuition fees听to UQ听instead of the host. For the duration of your short-term global experience, you will be automatically enrolled in EXCH codes (#2-4 UQ units) on My SI-net.听
Registration fee not required for Hessen Exchange Program
You will pay all other associated program fees directly to the host.听
The UQ tuition fees that you pay are determined by your status as a UQ student. For more information, please refer to the听Tuition and Program fees听- Exchange tuition fees.
It is your responsibility to check that you are enrolled correctly by the appropriate UQ census date, or you will be charged a late fee.听
Program fees include the basic offer of seminars in the study program, workshops, the German language course, excursions, accommodation (in some cases also meals), health insurance and study materials.听 Additional costs may arise through tickets for public transport, a security deposit for keys, or some meals.

Funding
Global Experiences Grants
When you submit your application for an听experience, you are considered for funding that is relevant to your nominated experience. Please refer to the 鈥�Short-Term Experiences Funding鈥痯age for details.听
OS-HELP Loan
You may also be eligible to submit an application for an听听if your program is for-credit and you are enrolled as a Commonwealth-supported student.

OS-HELP loan applications open on 5 January each year.
OS-HELP loan applications can鈥檛 be accepted:
- any earlier than 6 months听before the official start date of your overseas study
- any later than听3 months听before the official end date of your overseas study.
